Language Proficiency:
You must provide proof of language proficiency by taking a language test from an agency designated by CIC. With your test results, you will be able to see exactly how many points you will receive for the language selection factor.

There are TWO official languages are in Canada – ENGLISH and FRENCH.

Designated language tests
You can arrange to take a language test from any of the following designated agencies.
» For English: International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - General module;
» For English: Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP)
» For French: Test d’évaluation de français (TEF)

Knowledge of official languages
A maximum of 24 points should be awarded for proficiency in English and French as follows:

» a maximum of 16 points for proficiency in the “first” official language (that identified by the principal applicant on the application form);
» a maximum of 8 points for proficiency in the “second” official language.

NOTE: If you do not include your test results with your application, it will not be processed and will be returned to you.
